Imphal: The Kuki Students Organisation (KSO) has called off the indefinite economic blockade on national highways in Manipur following a meeting with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh. The main objective behind the blockade was to press for filling up of the quota reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates in the state police department. Singh had given assurance that the government would initiate the required process, after which the decision by the student’s body was taken.

MANIPUR: Speaking on the occasion of ‘anti-terrorism day’ in Manipur, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has informed that the Centre is yet to take a decision on the Implementation of inner line permit system in the state even as the resolution of the state Assembly on the issue has been sent to the Union Home Ministry. He further said that any organisation should not take any anti- national action while demanding implementation of the inner line permit system in the state. SHILLONG: Militants of the United A’chik Liberation Army (UALA) has ordered the closure of the Darangdura coal mine in South Garo Hills on the same day they had masterminded the killing of five labourers on Monday afternoon. Police said that the rebels came to the mine area and ordered its closure reportedly over ‘extortion demands’ and later returned to commit the cold blooded killings. The police informed that around seven armed militants holding three AK rifles, several small arms and grenades arrived at the mine quarry and ordered the workers to halt their work. TRIPURA: Following the incident that killed three newspaper employees of ‘Dainik Ganadoot’, the opposition parties have called a 12 hour shut-down in Tripura ,Tuesday, to protest the killing of the newspaper employees. The three employees of ‘Dainik Ganadoot’, a vernacular daily were killed by unidentified assailants Sunday. Congress has called a 12-hours strike in and around the Agartala city Tuesday to protest the incident. Ruling Communist Party of India-Marxists (CPI-M) has also asked the government run by the party to probe the incident and nab the culprits. Agartala: Three ultras of the banned (NLFT) managed to elope along with two kidnapped persons from the outfit’s hideout in in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) of neighbouring Bangladesh and surrendered to security forces.
