5 workers shot dead in South Garo Hills
SHILLONG: Five innocent and unarmed coal labourers were reportedly shot dead by armed militants in vengeance for the quarry owner’s failure to pay up on time on Monday afternoon in Nangalbibra region of South Garo Hills. According to reports, a heavily armed group of militants went to the coal quarry operated by one Amitabh Sangma/ Marak at Darangdura, 10 kms from Nangalbira, at around 4:30 PM on Monday. NPF on eviction
IMPHAL, May 20: The Naga Peoples Front (NPF), Manipur State has termed the eviction drive of the state government of Manipur at the Kabo Leikai along the Naga river as ‘demolition’ and said the Congress led government will be held responsible for any untoward incident that may arise out of the situation. CMJ University case takes a twist
SHILLONG: Another twist turned up in the case of CMJ University when Human Resources Manager -cum- Controller of Examinations of CMJ University, Juban KB Kharpuri, surrendered before a local court here on May 17. CID sources on Monday informed that they had sought for five days of police custody for Kharpuri but he got admitted in hospital suffering from ill-health. Interrogation will soon begin the moment he is discharged from the hospital. Currently Chancellor of the University, CM Jha, and Director Dr. (Mrs.) Manjeet Kaur, are still on the run. 12 climbers of NorthEast make history
IMPHAL:- North East India no doubt has talents and it was proved when 12 climbers scaled the highest peak Mt Everest in a span of three days.Ten of its members have reached the peak while two other NCC cadets from Manipur also scaled the peak. 3 years now, still awaiting justice.
SHILLONG: Three years have passed since the police firing case at Langpih which claimed the lives of four villagers and 12 others who were injured. Then and now the Assam government is yet to take action against the police personnel. It was on 14th of May, 2010 that four villagers were killed and 12 others were seriously injured when the Assam police personnel fired at them at Langpih. Retired Justice PC Phukan in its report had indicated Platoon Commander of Assam Police, Prem Singh Limbu for ordering excessive and unnecessary firing without a warning which resulted in the violent occurrence. Newspaper Office attacked in Tripura, three stabbed to death
In a rather bizarre incident that unfolded on Sunday late afternoon in Tripura capital Agartala, a group of unidentified miscreants attacked a newspaper office and killed three of its staff members. According to sources in Tripura police, around 3:30 P.M on Sunday a group of miscreant came to the the Dainik Ganadoot, a Bengali daily’s office in palace compound in the heart of Agartala , supposedly two unknown miscreant entered the office in search of the editor Sushil Chowdhury who was not present at the office .
